Join me in the beautiful Timmons Studios at Contemporary Craft for Introduction to Natural Dyes, a 6-week, hands-on workshop where you’ll learn everything from how to prepare fabric to receive color (scour and mordant), how to coax color from both dye extracts and plants around you, and how to recycle your dye baths into stable lake pigments for future use. We will use our beautiful colors to create fiber jewelry and a swatchbook of our experiments!

This workshop meets from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Thursday nights from April 30 to June 4.

Series Overview:

Week 1: Overview + fabric prep

Week 2: All about mordants

Week 3: Dyeing with whole dyestuff and dye extracts

Week 4: Dyeing with foraged plants and kitchen scraps

Week 5: Color shifting and lake pigments

Week 6: Making fiber jewelry with our naturally dyed fabrics

All materials, snacks, and beverages will be provided. No prior experience is needed. All are welcome!
