Language of the Land : Message Boards
In this work, the land speaks to us through a familiar format – the message board. Known for grabbing our attention to announce something important or urgent, the message board is beloved for its simplicity, tactility and customizability.
This series of message boards is created using a natural dye technique called bundle-dyeing. River stones are used as a resist on fabric dyed with oak galls, emulating the essence of the tannin-soaked river beds. In lieu of the organic ridges seen along the river’s edge, the geometric lines of the message board merge the natural with the man-made.
Each message board has a set of removable and customizable maple letters. They can be rearranged to create a message that speaks to your imagination and personal connection to the land.
